2011 Elections may tear Nigeria apart - Gen. Buhari

By Abdulmumini Adeku.

The forthcoming general elections to be conducted by the Independent  National Electoral  Commission [INEC]  may actually make or mar the corporate existence of if feelers are anything to go by.

In an investigations conducted by our correspondent on this matter, it was discovered that most of the gladiators in some of the major political associations were either on each others throat or were on the verge of a  full scale declaration of war on each other due to perceived differences.

For example there are clandestine moves by opposition party members to drag General Ibrahim Babangida to contest under the platform of the  All  Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP] if he does not fly the Peoples Democratic Party ticket .[PDP]

Sources insist that the presidential primary will hold on September 18 at the

Eagle Square
in Abuja barring no unforeseen circumstance.

in Abuja barring no unforeseen circumstance.

This is not the first time the gap- toothed General is been linked to another party, for example, The National Democratic Party [NDP]  has been referred to in some quarters as one of his likely port of calls if the PDP messes him up, a feat looking very possible as the incumbent President ,Dr Goodluck Jonathan stands firm.

It is not known as at press time what will be Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ’s immediate response in the ensuing political melee but the question now is will he even contest at all considering the booby traps set against him.

Within the ruling PDP, things are not looking rosy as well as  the sense of unease suggest a bomb waiting to explode

For example ,members of the PDP within the North-West Zone are at daggers drawn over why some of there members are finally succumbing to overtures from the Goodluck Jonathan camp, an act they see as a great betrayal of trust on Arewa political philosophy of being in control always.

The tension in the North West had become heightened against the backdrop of some Governors who had spoken against the Jonathan presidential dreams.

According to analysts  ,the North West Zone is key  for any of the aspirants  seeking the party” s ticket for next years election.

It is not known the real reasons why , but very lately former Nigerian leaders have been holding various sessions with President Goodluck Jonathan  suggesting that the present regime does not want to conduct a badly held election in 2011.

Meanwhile as at press time it was gathered that at least about 46   political parties  are said to have declared there open support and will most likely adopt President Goodluck Jonathan and as such will not be contesting for that position at the polls.

The parties are as follows UNDP,AA,NSDP,ALP,APN,MMDP,NAC,NMPP,PPP,HDP,MMN,MRDD,ACD,ACCORD,ARP,RPN,MDJ,LDPN,NUP,NPC,CAP,UNPP. n
