  'PDP is a Business Conglomerate'

By BIYI ADEGOROYE

PDP and the nation:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a business conglomerate; it is a disjointed assemblage of men and women of antithetical philosophies. There is no ideological connectivity, and that is why it lacks cohesion, inspiration and purpose. The current situation we find ourselves in Nigeria is engendered by the political ineptitude of that behemoth called PDP.

That is what you see when a party is purposeless. PDP's inability to convey any programme to the people is very glaring. That is why the party is always creating a situation of temporary state of emergency. It is a distraction. That is why you see the fracas in the National Assembly the other day. That is why you saw a situation where, a few months ago, we had a president who could not convey to the nation the real state of his health despite the fact that they all belong to the same political party.

You see, each time I assess the situation in PDP, I discover they have a complex of the Hegelian philosophy of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. That has been translated to a concept of chaos. How do they do this? They generate a situation here, which is the thesis; then you generate another situation which is contrary to the previous one; which is the antithesis and then they synthesize the third situation; which is where you were heading to in the first place, according to the laws of dialectical materialism.

That is what they do. If you look at the whole strategy, they created the situation- the President is ill. Then you created another situation where people within the same party whom they referred to as a cabal block others. That way, you have two 'parties' within the same party. Then that situation synthesized into the Jonathan phenomenon. But Nigerians are not stupid. That is why when we commence the whole electioneering campaign in the next few months, we will be able to articulate a concept that will make it vividly clear to the people that the PDP cannot lead Nigerians in the 21st century. Any attempt to perpetuate PDP in this nation will result in chaos.

Getting PDP Out:

We are going to generate the awareness in the young people of this nation. That is our area of strength. The young people of this nation will be the one to savage the nation, because we believe that without the young people, there will be no other generation. So once the whistle is blown; we will begin to see pro-activity from the young people like we saw in Abuja the other time. You will see young professionals-actors, singers, and the civil society groups, all came out, without been intimidated by the government and the military. They came out there and ventilated their grievances. That is what we are going to see.

IBB ‘s Disregard for Youths:

I think he was speaking within a particular context, looking at what he had observed, because it's the same Babangida who had said in 2007 that it held that 'if Nigeria was not going to welcome their generation, he would recommend a person like me. He made that a public statement.' So I think he was speaking within the same context that some of the young people that have emerged have not had a clear definition of what they want and what I saw in 2003 and 2007 is what I call political ventriloquism. That is to say they were actually just reechoing something that some of the old men in the country polity had already spoken.

We didn't really have authentic originality, so within that context I think President Babangida is right, but once the Nigerian youth recognize, (and I am talking about my generation), that there is a possibility of being heard, they will emerge from the woods. You are going to see a brilliant, intellectuals emerging from the woodwork to pontificate a political concept that will help this nation.

Corruption in the Polity:

There are many corrupt practices that have been swept under the carpet, those that the PDP had managed to cover and they didn't get to the public ear. Once you see a situation like that, you know there is some disagreement within the party as to who should have what. Now, corruption will continue to thrive in this nation as long as there is a conducive environment for it. There is an enabling environment for corruption that's why it thrives. A simple philosophy of life is that "species that can only thrive in enabling environment. If the fish is out of water, it cannot survive."

The only reason why corruption thrives in Nigeria is because there is a mechanism that enables it, and that mechanism has been put in place by the government. So the corrupt cannot hold the corrupt to ransom, the corrupt cannot punish the corrupt. That is the reason why I respect the likes President Olusegun Obasanjo. I do because of what we have seen- the doggedness and the energy with which he pursued those that were culpable. As far as am concerned, when the Chris Okotie government is put in place, the first thing we are going to do is change the environment. Once that environment is changed, fraudsters can no longer operate. Now there are tools and things that we can do to change the environment.

Spread of FRESH:

It is not difficult to carry ensure the presence of the party in all parts of the country. What one needs to do is to open offices there. We are coming up with membership drive. We are prepared to sacrifice all it takes ensure national spread. The PDP should know that it is not going to be business as usual. We are going to mobilize the young people of this nation to stand up and take their destiny, their future in their hands.

Deregistration of Parties:

When you see that the PDP is dealing with trivial issues, leaving other pressing issues, serious national issues, you begin to wonder about their focus. The concept of democracy is predicated on choice, so even if my party is made up of 10 people, that is my choice. FRESH is duly registered. The problem is that it is the same PDP that registered all these parties; regrettably, it is the same PDP that now considers that it did wrong because it is no longer conducive for their imagination. They take us on a wild goose chase, merry-go -round and then they come back because they absolutely have nothing to do.

There are many problems that are facing the country today, yet they settle for deregistration of parties, just because of the stipends they give to the political parties. When you think about the grant they give to the political parties, they are stipends, calculated to stifle them. That is what baffled me when I heard that they were trying to deregister parties on account of momentary considerations. I believe that Nigerians are watching and I know that PDP will be history in the next regime, because Nigeria cannot survive another PDP regime.
